These programs are presented by the Carbon County Museum Educator at the request of the teacher.

Wyoming’s Dino-mite Past

Grade: K – 5th

Duration: 45 – 50 minutes

Overview:

Students use fossils to explore the dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago in Wyoming. Dinosaur environments, diets, and size will encourage understanding about these ancient beasts. Students will use photographs to identify certain types of dinosaurs, both extinct and alive today. They will also use clay impressions to explore the process of fossilization.


Exploring the Five W’s with the Charles Washakie Hide Painting

Grade: K – 6th

Duration: 45 – 50 minutes

Overview:

Students will use the Charles Washakie Hide Painting to focus on the Five W’s and how they can be visually determined in the Painting.  Students will create their own hide painting based on an event or experience from their own lives.


Westward Ho! Exploring the Lives of the First Pioneers

Grades: K-5th

Duration: 40-50 minutes

Overview:

Covers the lives of pioneers starting with Jim Bridger’s first arrival in Wyoming and other notable pioneers.


Pony Express, Stagecoach or Train: How to get around in the West

Grades: K-5th

Duration: 40-50 minutes

Overview:

Students learn about the difficulties of travel in Wyoming during the 19th century. Students learn about the impact of the evolution of transportation, from covered wagons to the building of the rail road in Carbon County.


Puppet Show

Grades: PreK-3rd

Duration: 10 minutes (can be performed in conjunction with another program or by itself)

Overview:

The puppet show is on the topic of Carbon County and Wyoming History, with themes and characters geared towards an audience aged 5 and up but appropriate for all ages.


One Room School House: Field Trip to Museum (This can be done both onsite and offsite)

Grades: K-6th

Duration: 1 hr- 2hr

Overview:

Students can experience a day in the life of a student in 1911. Guided by a costumed, in character school teacher, the students can experience 1-2 hours participating in typical lessons that would have been taught in a classroom over 100 years ago.
